When I was in preschool, my favorite time of day was when I was allowed to draw and paint. I would watch my mom- a professional artist draw and dream I would be an illustrator. As I got older, this love never faded and eventually I went to college to study art.
I began working with gouache resist this year. It is a technique where gouache paint is applied to areas that will later be painted in color or left white. India ink is applied to the whole surface and then the non inked areas are painted. I loved the expression and dynamic energy this dancer possessed. The photo is from a friend and sports photographer, Tom Jones.
I enjoy walking to reflect the seasons or nature. I'm directly influenced by what is in my garden, and neighborhood. I painted this from a photo I took in April. It is the entry to the street I live on and I was attracted to the new buds on the trees and the a freshly applied layer of bark.
